Why you have nothing to fear when it comes to online dating
Online dating isn’t scary. Okay, obviously we would say this, but seriously, there’s no reason you need to be fearful when it comes to getting out there and meeting new people. Over our 20 years in the Australian online dating game (yes, we’ve been doing it that long), we’ve heard everyone’s concerns, and we’re not trying to discredit how you may be feeling because the thought of getting out there can be daunting. However, we’re here to tell you that fear doesn’t need to play a role in your decision about whether or not to online date, because unlike clowns, bills or spiders, dating is fun and exciting, not scary.
You can start at any time (and stop at any time) Unlike offline dating, there's no need to get dolled up and wander around the supermarket waiting for someone to ask you out while you’re browsing for apples (we’re not sure if that actually happens). You can create your profile in your PJ’s and literally be browsing potential dates in a matter of minutes. There’s no pressure about who you talk to or who you meet up with; you’re in the driver's seat. You can also stop at any time. Not enjoying it, not finding what you’re looking for, or even better, you’ve found someone you really connect with, then you stop. Not in a week, not in an hour, again you can stop whenever suits you. It’s a lot safer than you think. One aspect of online dating that leaves some concerned is the question around safety. The security concern with online dating is a real one. Any situation when you’re meeting someone you don’t know should definitely be treated with care. Take our supermarket apple example (sorry we’re still going with it), just because prince charming catches eye in aisle three, doesn’t mean you know exactly who he is. However, unlike Woolies or Coles, we don’t specialise in produce, rather we specialise in security. Not to make your eyes glaze over, but not only do we have technology dedicated to detecting the location of users to ensure only those within Australia can contact you, but we also have an on the ground support team working 24/7 with the aim for providing you with the best experience possible. That includes weeding out those who don’t have your best interests in mind. It should be about what you can gain not what you could lose. Like any new experience, if you’re going to give something a go, hopefully, the positives outweigh the negatives, and we recommend this same mentality when it comes to online dating. Instead of thinking: “what if it doesn’t work?” What would happen if you instead thought: “what if it does?” You never know what you could gain if you give online dating a go. Even if you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for, you could make friends or just get past the barrier of putting yourself out there. So seriously why wouldn’t you give it a go?
