How to break the ice without using cheesy pick up lines
It's one of the key moments in any dating experience: the opening line. For some, breaking the ice comes very naturally and the whole process can be fun and flirtatious. For others it can be quite daunting and scary.
With so much riding on first impressions with a new love interest, it's vital for you have a plan for breaking the ice. Hopefully this will enable you to ease into a conversation without using cheesy or awkward pick up lines.
So for those of you needing a helping hand with breaking the ice - try following these guidelines:
Be polite and respectful
Don't invade their personal space
Look them in the eye
Ask them about themselves
Use their name in conversation
Share some personal information
Be fun and lighthearted
Avoid making any sexual references
Avoid constantly checking your phone/ watch
Don't try this when you've had too much to drink (it's never a good look!)
The key in all of this is to be yourself. You want to start out how you mean to go on. Your best chance at making a good first impression is to be honest and natural. Trying too hard to come up with witty opening lines will either completely paralyse you or make you come across as desperate and needy.
Instead, keep it simple. Be polite and ask questions. Show interest, praise them and share something about yourself. This will show that you're genuine and have a quality character that is worth getting to know.
